Robotics & Artificial Intelligence is a multi-disciplinary field in which we learn how to combine the knowledge of AI and Robotics to develop an Intelligent Machine. The term "Intelligent machine" means a machine that works like daily life machines but also carries the capabilities of automating its tasks based on the preference of its user and past experiences. It doesn't need constant guidance as it learns from its past experiences or; we can say that it is programmed to do tasks on its own and learn. That's where the role of AI comes.
∨ If we observe the machines around us, we will find many machines that can be intelligent. For the sake of our discussion, we will be taking the example of vacuum cleaner here...
What's the difference b/w a manual vacuum cleaner and an AI-driven vacuum cleaner?
In the case of a manual vacuum cleaner, we have to move around the whole house holding it to clean the house. But an AI-driven vacuum cleaner will clean the house on a single command.
That's the difference.
We had programmed the AI-driven vacuum cleaner to avoid obstacles using machine learning, data from proximity sensors & cameras, and many more functionalities.
Also, while developing an AI-driven vacuum cleaner, we will need many electronic parts. Thus, increasing the price.
So, what are we doing there? We removed the need for manual assistance in the task of cleaning. By developing an AI-driven vacuum cleaner, we are helping those people who don't have the time or the capability to move a manual vacuum cleaner around the house.
But if we look at the other side of the same mb coin, we can say that we have removed the need for labor by automating the tasks. Or we can say that we are depriving the people of their job who earn thorough cleaning, therefore increasing the unemployment. That seems to be a tradeoff.
Every time we want to improve the functionality of something, there will be a tradeoff.
So, that's what we will be exploring in our journey of the B.Tech in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. Conclusively, I can say that we will learn to solve real-life problems of our society by developing Intelligent machines.
